Bruce and the Spider
Bruce was a Scottish warrior who had fought in many battles. One day, he found himself in a cave, hiding from his enemies. He was tired, hungry, and alone. As he sat there, feeling sorry for himself, he noticed a spider trying to weave a web between two rocks.
Bruce watched the spider closely, fascinated by the way it persevered despite the challenges it faced. Every time the spider’s web broke, it simply started again, undeterred. Bruce saw in the spider the same spirit of determination and courage that had allowed him to survive many battles.
Moved by the spider’s example, Bruce decided to follow its lead. He realized that he could not give up, no matter how difficult the situation seemed. He resolved to fight on, no matter what.
As he made this decision, Bruce looked up and saw a small spider trying to climb up a wall. It would climb a few inches, and then fall back down to the ground. Bruce watched as the spider tried again and again, never giving up.
Moved by the spider’s struggle, Bruce decided to help. He picked up the spider and placed it on the wall, where it could climb easily. As he watched the spider climb to safety, he realized that even the smallest actions could make a difference in the world.
Bruce emerged from the cave, renewed and invigorated. He went on to lead his army to many victories, always remembering the lessons he had learned from the spiders in the cave.
Years later, as he lay on his deathbed, Bruce called for his squire. He asked the squire to bring him a small box that he had kept hidden away for many years. Inside the box was a spider, preserved in amber.
Bruce explained to the squire that the spider had been a constant reminder to him of the importance of determination and courage. He asked the squire to pass on this lesson to future generations, so that they too could be inspired by the example of the spider.
And so, the story of Bruce and the spider became a legend, passed down through the ages as a reminder of the power of perseverance and the importance of never giving up.
