Sleeping Beauty (Briar-Rose)
Once upon a time, in a kingdom far away, a beautiful princess named Aurora was born. Her parents, the king and queen, threw a great feast to celebrate her birth and invited all the fairies in the land to bless the newborn princess. However, they forgot to invite an evil fairy, who crashed the party and cursed the princess, saying that on her sixteenth birthday, she would prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die.
Horrified by the curse, the king and queen begged the remaining fairies to help. One fairy softened the curse by saying the princess would only fall into a deep sleep, which would last for a hundred years until a prince came to wake her up with a true love’s kiss.
Determined to save their daughter, the king and queen ordered all spinning wheels in the kingdom to be destroyed and for the princess to be hidden away in a secret room in the palace until her sixteenth birthday had passed.
Years passed, and Aurora grew up to be a beautiful and kind-hearted princess. But on her sixteenth birthday, she stumbled upon an old spinning wheel that had been hidden away in the palace. Without knowing its danger, Aurora pricked her finger on the spindle and fell into a deep sleep, just as the evil fairy had predicted.
The king and queen were devastated but knew that the curse could be broken by true love’s kiss. They ordered the princess to be placed in a tower, where she would sleep peacefully for a hundred years until a prince came to awaken her.
Years passed, and the kingdom became overgrown with thorns and brambles, hiding the palace from view. Rumors spread throughout the land of a sleeping princess and a castle hidden in the woods. Many brave princes tried to fight their way through the thorns, but none were successful.
But then, a hundred years later, a brave prince named Philip stumbled upon the thorns and was determined to save the sleeping princess. With the help of the fairies, he fought his way through the thorns and reached the tower where Aurora slept.
Overcome by her beauty, Philip kissed the sleeping princess, breaking the curse and awakening her from her long slumber. Aurora and Philip fell deeply in love and were soon married in a grand ceremony.
From that day on, the kingdom was filled with joy and happiness. The thorns and brambles around the palace disappeared, and Aurora and Philip ruled the kingdom together as king and queen. The evil fairy was never seen again, and the kingdom lived in peace and prosperity for many years to come.
