The Fisherman and his Wife
Once upon a time, there was a poor fisherman who lived in a small cottage by the sea with his wife. Every day, he would cast his fishing net into the sea, hoping to catch enough fish to sell at the market and make a living.
One day, the fisherman caught a magical fish that spoke to him. The fish begged for its life and promised to grant the fisherman three wishes in exchange for its release. The fisherman was hesitant at first, but he ultimately decided to release the fish and make a wish for a better life for himself and his wife.
When he returned home and told his wife about the magical fish and their wishes, she demanded that he go back and ask for more. So, the fisherman went back to the sea and asked for more wishes. The fish, annoyed by the greedy woman’s requests, granted her every wish without question, making her increasingly more powerful and greedy with each one.
First, she wished for a larger house. Then, she wished to become a queen. Then, she wished to become the ruler of the world. But no matter how much she wished, she was never satisfied and always wanted more.
Eventually, the fisherman’s wife became so powerful and arrogant that she demanded to become a goddess. The fish granted her wish, but as soon as she became a goddess, she realized that she had lost her humanity and was no longer able to experience joy or happiness.
Desperate to return to her former life, the fisherman’s wife begged the fish to take away all her power and wealth and return her to her humble existence with her husband. The fish granted her wish, and she returned to her simple life with the fisherman, happy to have learned the lesson that greed and arrogance bring only misery.
From then on, the fisherman and his wife were content with their simple life by the sea. They lived in a small cottage, and the fisherman continued to cast his fishing net into the sea, content with what he had and grateful for the blessings in his life.
