The Selfish Giant
Once upon a time, in a beautiful garden at the edge of a town, there lived a selfish giant. He had a magnificent garden filled with lush green trees, colorful flowers, and bountiful fruits. The giant would spend his days wandering through his garden, admiring its beauty and enjoying the fruits of his labor.
However, the giant was also very selfish and greedy. He didn’t like to share his garden with anyone else, and he would often chase away children who tried to play there. He even put up a high wall around his garden to keep the children out.
One day, the giant went away on a long journey, and while he was gone, a group of children discovered the garden. They were amazed by its beauty and began to play and laugh in the sun. The garden was filled with joy and happiness for the first time in many years.
When the giant returned, he was furious to find the children playing in his garden. He chased them away and put up even higher walls around the garden to keep them out. From that day on, the garden became a cold and lonely place, and even the trees and flowers stopped growing.
Years went by, and the giant grew old and bitter. He longed for the days when the children had played in his garden, but he couldn’t bear to admit his mistake. One day, as he was walking through his garden, he heard the sweet sound of laughter coming from a distant corner of the garden.
Curious, the giant followed the sound and found a group of children who had managed to climb over the wall and enter his garden. They were playing and laughing just like before, and the giant was filled with joy and happiness once again.
Realizing his mistake, the giant opened the gates of his garden and invited the children to play there whenever they wanted. The garden came alive once again, and the trees and flowers began to grow and bloom.
The giant learned that true happiness came not from keeping everything to oneself but from sharing with others. From that day on, the giant became kind and generous, and the garden flourished with life and happiness.
And the children continued to play in the giant’s garden, always welcome and always happy. The giant realized that the greatest treasure in life was not his garden but the joy and laughter of the children who played there. And he knew that he would never be selfish again.
